Nattakarn "Jeen" Chantum
You could never doubt the success of the Cricket development program implemented by the CMSCA in Chiang Mai,
after the stellar performances of the 3 players from Chiang Mai doing the bulk of the bowling during the inaugural ACC U-19 Women’s Championship in Chiang Mai, Thailand in December 2008. Therefore it was not surprising that at least one of the young girls would force their way into the senior Thailand National team for the ACC Women’s Twenty20 Championship 2009 in Malaysia in 3rd to 11th July.
The three practiced with the senior squad but Nattakarn “Jeen” Chantum was the only one chosen in the senior team. She did not let the selectors down with her performance throughout the tournament. Jeen had her 13th birthday in January 2009, so she was only 13.5 years of age during the tournament. But she has been playing cricket for 4 years.
Thailand won 6 out of their 7 games, a very creditable performance and shows that development of women’s cricket is heading in the right direction.
Jeen’s first match of Sawasdee cricket was in September 2005 and we have photos of her every year cataloguing her growth and improvement in skills development.
